The role of the Community Outreach & Awareness Committee is to identify, develop, and promote programs that enhance the volunteer opportunities within the community; create and promote opportunities that involve REALTORS® and Affiliates at the local and state levels.

Community Service Projects
SAAR Health Screening (Project description): The Scottsdale Area Association of REALTORS®' COAC coordinates an event with Precision Ultrasound Health Screening to provide high-quality preventive health screenings that are accurate, convenient, and inexpensive. Results are given immediately and everything is confidential. Project Leader: Sue Barnes (480-688-0550)
Lockboxes for Seniors (Project description): SAAR provides and helps to install Rescue Lockboxes to seniors that can be used by the first responders to gain access to the home of the senior in case of emergency. This is a joint project with the Scottsdale Police Department and the Sheriff's Department serving Fountain Hills. Project Leader: Sue Barnes (480-688-0550)
Parada del Sol (Project description): SAAR sponsors a float that emphasizes our involvement with community projects at this annual event . Project Leaders: Shelley Carr (602-993-5911) & Lisa Javernick - SAAR Staff (480-945-2651)
Rock and Roll Paint-A-Thon (Project description): This is a community-based effort in which SAAR Volunteers paint a home for a low-income, elderly, disabled homeowner who is unable to do the work themselves. The next event will be held on Saturday, October 23rd. Project Leader: Allen Blaker (602-254-2700)
Soles4Souls Shoe Drive (Project description): SAAR's COAC sponsors a shoe collection drive for worldwide distribution. In 2009 and 2010, SAAR collected over 250 pairs of shoes. Project Leader: Julieth Calvo (480-837-6483)
Habitat for Humanity (Project description): In 2009, SAAR's Community Outreach & Awareness Committee and friends, helped construct a home for a Habitat family. (See: http://www.scottsdaleaz.gov/volunteer.asp) Project Leader: Lonny Gibson (602-321-2282)
Packages from Home (Project description): This is a non-profit organization that originated in Arizona that sends thousands of care packages to our women and men in the military every year. PFH delivers the packages between Thanksgiving and Christmas. In 2009, the COAC collected enough items to fill a 14' x 5' trailer. Project Leader: Michael Collins (602-308-4881)
